Musing on running

Musing on running

I am fully aware that no one except me gives a hoot about my running. (I’m a realist.)

I have nothing to complain about, absolutely nothing.

I have a great personal trainer, a great physio, a lovely regular running partner, and the wider Delhi running community is brilliantly supportive – so yup, absolutely nothing to complain about at all.

But at the end of the day my running doesn’t matter to anyone except me.

So here goes.

I am a couple of weeks out from a race for which I am woefully unprepared and there is no-one to blame except yours very truly.

I haven’t trained enough.

I haven’t rehabbed my wretched hamstring enough (2 years and counting…)

However, in the midst of niggles and the inevitable pre-race self doubt, there’s one thing that I am very proud of and want to share with you, and it goes like this:

It is SUCH a privilege and SUCH a joy to be able to run at my age (I’m 73) and it is a privilege that I don’t take lightly.

The joy of lacing up, the joy of running with young people, these are joys that I do not take lightly.

I’m having fun.

I’m staying (sort of) fit and healthy (wretched hamstring, are you listening?!).

And I get to run and explore and discover places when I travel, which is always huge fun.

So the balance is well and truly in favour of running.

And now I need a favour from you, please, dear reader.

In 2 weeks, when the wheels probably fall off after my next race (I’m being realistic !) & I have a meltdown all over you, will you please remind me what I’ve just written? “The balance is in favour of running…”

Over and out.

Musing over.

Time to lace up and head out for a run.
