Next week it is the Delhi half marathon and – as ever – nerves and panic are setting in.
As I say every time – for someone who is running solely for pleasure and who should know better at my age, I certainly take these amateur races FAR too seriously and get FAR too stressed about them.
The stress is 100% of my own doing, because I haven’t trained enough, and I am still nursing the same bloody niggle that sabotaged my last HM in February.
Jeez.
Most of 2025 will have been dominated my aching hamstrings and physio sessions and the occasional bout of feeling super sorry for myself.
But.
Guess what?
Yup.
Since no-one except me gives two hoots about my race next weekend, I shall quit whimpering, and tell you instead that on my long, very, very, VERY slow run this morning, I saw the sunrise over India Gate.
It was very beautiful, and is something that I will be looking forward to next Sunday.
Since I am a super slow runner, I usually get to see the sunrise on the return leg back up towards India Gate – fast runners will have NO idea what I’m talking about!!
But that stunning view of the sunrise over India Gate is usually the cue for a first bout of happy weeping. Followed up by the second one as I cross the finish line.
So today was a bit of pre-run prep!
I keep telling myself “it is what it is” and (more harshly) “you have only yourself to blame”.
But the fact is, there’s precious little I can do at this stage.
So I have a week of resting, while simultaneously hoping and praying that my damned hamstring FINALLY cures itself this week…well, miracles do sometimes happen, right?
