What did I see on my run? Rain, rain and yet more rain!

Before I share my super-soggy run in the Biodiversity Park with you, please don’t “@” me, telling me that rain is what I should expect in Delhi’s monsoon season.

I know, I know.

But my silly weather app gave me only a 30%? 40%? possibility of getting drenched, so I took my chance.

And lost.

On a scale of “how soaking wet have you been on your monsoon runs, Christine?” this comes a close 2nd to that infamous time in 2021 when I was beyond drenched AND lost my glasses in a puddle, so had to run blind…and then go back with Bahadur to try and find them…it was an EPIC story, though I say so myself – here you go!

This time round, when the heavens opened, I did 2 things:

  1. I sprinted to a guard hut that I knew from 2 days ago would provide some shelter…because, yes, OK OK, I got drenched 2 days ago, and took refuge there.
  2. I preemptively took my specs off, because they were so rain-streaked and I had nothing dry with which to wipe them, and so didn’t drop them.

I ended up spending 45 minutes sheltering here, while the rain poured down, and even did a guided tour of my temporary digs in one of my Instagram stories:

A trio of lovely ladies from one of the slums that sadly surround the park came squelching past, and when I invited them to join me, they all smiled and waved and told me they were off to work, so couldn’t stop. Such cheerful souls, bless them.

After 45 minutes, and clean out of snacks, I decided to make a run for it.

Misjudged it completely.

Got even more soaked.

Saw 2 jackals who looked at me in soggy disbelief.

Eventually sloshed and squelched my way back to the car, soggy and happy.

All in a day’s run in India!
