I know, I know, this is a running blog, and that I’m supposed to be a runner but…
Life happens.
Niggles happen.
And since my stupid left hamstring is proving to be a very stubborn niggle and not healing, running is off the cards for the moment.
But I’m still walking and getting in the miles every day, and trying to beat the heat at the same time, by walking as early as possible.
So, for now, until that blasted niggle goes – “What did I see on my walk” it is!
I am a great fan of early mornings, especially in a crazy busy city like Delhi (where I live).
I always feel as though I’ve got a head start on the day, and today was one of those days.
Read on…
I went to my lovely local Biodiversity Park and could hardly move for peacocks, which is a glorious thing to be able to say. There were birds at every turn, dashing hither and thither, flashing those amazing feathers…it was all go, go, go in the peacock world this morning.
But the star of my walk was this gorgeous fella.
I literally could’ve reached out and touched him.
Amazing.
He was totally unfussed by the presence of yours truly and a bloke who clearly didn’t understand a word of my Hindi, and kept making hilariously non-sequitur comments in very broken English.
(Note to self, Christine – your Hindi is clearly rubbish!)
I’m still not sure whether the jackal was a bit weak and dehydrated, or just so relaxed around humans that he couldn’t be bothered to move.
The bloke who couldn’t understand me said he was going to look for a bowl so we could give him some water, but that was the last I saw of him. Our whole interaction was hilariously lost in translation!
I went fossicking in vain for something I could use as a container, then a young man came running really fast through the forest, and the jackal slowly moved a few feet away, so I guess he was OK.
All in a day’s run I mean walk :)

Aravalli Biodiversity Park?
Yes, Noni – Biodiversity & could’ve touched him. He didn’t even react as I got closer and closer…super chilled!
You managed to get pretty close!
Loved your account and the pics and videos. Such a handsome fellow! My daughter, who
Lives in San Francisco, has coyotes visiting her outside her city apartment!
