I saw from Strava this morning that my Mumbai based friend Rohit Kapur had gone for a run. My first reaction was, “In this weather?!!”
As I’m sure most of you will know, Mumbai has been lashed by torrential rains for 2 days now, causing massive flooding and water-logging.
For those of you who know the city, Rohit ran from Pedder Road to NCPA and back, along Marine Drive. He ran past the Kemp’s Corner flyover where the road was closed, he told me. Apparently it was drizzly with a few downpours, which is a relief after the footage of crazy wind and rain.
Rohit shared this photo (below) – not his, by the way – of the damage to the road near Kemp’s Corner. If I’m correct, this is the road heading down past the Towers of Silence.
Rohit said he saw at least 5 trees uprooted along Marine Drive.
Later I received other photos of the damage on Pedder Road – we used to live in Bombay (as it was then) so have lots of friends and family there, who keep us updated.
My God, will you just look at the damage here – I know every inch of this road, courtesy the Mumbai Marathon…this is the beginning of the uphill slog.
Poor dear Mumbai, one of my most favourite cities in the world.
Rohit, thanks for the update and #keeprunning #keepinspiring and, most importantly of all – please, please, please take care, running in the Mumbai rains
